More Info on the Sports/STEM Camp
Sports can involve children of all ages in interesting STEM projects and activities. Sports are a way to make STEM cool and relevant to kids. Sports are much more than a STEM education vehicle. They present exciting and challenging real world applications of STEM principles, like physics and aerodynamics-even sports bio-mechanics and kinesiology, as it pertains to player performance. Many sports-related careers are STEM specific, including statisticians and sports therapists, among others.
For our sports/STEM camp, we will construct a drone through the use of basketball. Drones offer great opportunity in sports coverage because of their maneuverability. They have the ability to fly five feet off the ground to obtain a side view of a player or fly as high as 400 feet to obtain a bird’s-eye view. It’s a very cost-effective tool with great maneuverability to be used in sports. The dramatic shot from a blimp floating high overhead has sent a clear message to TV viewers: You are watching a big-time event. Now, a new generation of photographers with drones is ready to bring that same technology to all levels of sports while giving audiences a perspective they’ve never seen before. It is becoming a thing that’s adopted by mainstream sports.
This year, along with all of the sports activities, we will focus on integrating STEM into your child’s day! Our goal is to insure that each child’s educational, cognitive and personal abilities are enhanced through their participation in camp that combines STEM research and sports.
During the camp, we will be talking about and building drones. We will discuss how drones are used in everyday life and in sports. At the end of the week, campers will be able to list the steps of the engineering process, how to build a drone, identify problems, offer solutions, and name how and when drones are used in the real-world.
